Philosophy of the Sports Department
Athletic participation is an important part of the overall program at the German International School Washington D.C. Whether the student wishes to compete against other Washington area schools, or participate in the variety of afternoon program courses provided during the school day, our students are encouraged to promote such values as determination, cooperation, respect, and fairness.
The Sports program at the German International School is considered to be an extension of the educational process, and it is greatly appreciated by the students that participate. Over the years, our student-athletes have noticed that they can push themselves in pursuit of individual goals, grow significantly, and build enduring associations with their classmates and teachers. They enjoy working towards team goals while undertaking, and surmounting, some of life’s challenges with the support of family, friends, and alumni.
All coaches, players, and fans, are expected to represent the GISW with dignity and class. Respect for officials and opponents, through constant attention to the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play, demonstrate our quest to be winners in all aspects of sport, regardless of the outcome of any one game. We hope that reminds everyone of our primary goals - to have fun, improve, and compete fairly at all times.
Some of our students prefer to participate in many of the AG’s provided during the school day. These activities, like our teams, are designed to promote such values as determination, cooperation, respect, and fairness, all while having fun and working to improve. The German School also fully embraces the concept of lifetime fitness so that all of our students can stay healthy and fit long after they have left our school and Sports program.
We look forward to seeing you on the field, in class, at an afternoon course, or at a game during one of our many sporting events. Go Griffins!
All the best,
The Sports Department of the German International School Washington DC
