Lantern Walk 2018

“Ich geh mit meiner Laterne”

That was one of the songs that one could hear from the midst of the glowing lanterns on Friday, November 9, 2018.

Following the German tradition, children and parents of the Preschool, the Elementary School, the German Language Courses and the Orientiation Level of the German International School, together with guests, celebrated the Saint Martins Festival. However, one thing was different this year. Due to rainy weather, the lantern walk went through the upper school building and afterwards everybody gathered in the Assembly Hall. There the story of Saint Martin was authentically acted out, Jana being Sankt Martin, Freya being the horse and Ria as the beggar. Afterwards Glühwein and a variety of snacks and other drinks were offered and everyone had the opportunity to chat and enjoy the merry evening.

This beautiful and memorable festival would have never been possible without the many helping hands. A big thank you to all the volunteers! We want to especially thank the FRIENDS of the German International School for donating the German version of Gingerbread Man (Weckmänner) which was a very tasty surprise after the lantern walk. Also we want to thank the musicians for creating the wonderful atmosphere and family Miranda for spontaneously donating a horse costume.

It is great to see so many visitors every year and to ring in the holiday season with this event.

Thank you and we already look forward to seeing you again next year,

Your Elementary School Team
