College Prep for US Colleges

The process of applying to colleges in the US begins early. Rising freshman who are planning on studying in the US will receive their first introduction to the application process and may already begin working out a four-year-plan for high school. They are encouraged to read the GISW College Handbook on the GISW website at .

Students in grade 10 take the PSAT and COMING SOON the Pre-ACT, to determine which standardized test they prefer and which set of scores they will eventually be sending to colleges. Parents will also have the opportunity to attend parent information events at the GISW to learn more about the college application process.

Students in grade 11 will take the official PSAT/NMSQT as well as begin taking the SAT and ACT tests. All interested students are encouraged to attend the NACAC National College Fairs that take place in our area https://www.nacacfairs.org/ , as well as regional events open to the public.

Students planning to study in the US should make an appointment for a college conference to make sure that they have a clear understanding of the individual components of the application process, including the time line for standardized testing, teacher recommendation letters, counselor recommendation letters, personal statements, essays, transcripts, financial aid an scholarships, college visits and interviews. Information on all aspects of the application process is available in the counselor’s office or during individual meetings with the counselor. Mrs. Fabina is available Mondays through Fridays from 8:10 am – 3:10 pm and can be reached via e-mail at counselor@giswashington.org or by phone at 301.767.3805.
