Parking and Traffic Rules and Driver's Guide GLC
The purpose of the following Parking and Traffic Rules is to enable the safe and
disciplined use of the parking lot and considerate behavior on the parking lot and
within the neighborhood. It is particularly important for our school to cultivate good
relationships with our neighbors. We are located in a residential area and must
demonstrate care in our behavior, i.e. treat our neighbors with respect, protect their
property and ensure their safety.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up
:: All drop-off and pick-up must take place at the dedicated parking space at
Westfield Shopping Center
:: Students will be transported to and from the school by shuttle buses.
:: Drop-off and pick-up of students at the school, on Chateau Drive and on Kentsdale Drive is
NOT ALLOWED
. Adherence to this rule will be strictly enforced.

Use of the Parking Lot
:: The use of the parking lot is restricted to teachers, employees, students and their
drivers WHO STAY ONSITE DURING CLASS.
:: The instructions of supervision and administrative staff must be followed.

Drivers' Guide and Vehicle Registration
::
These Parking and Traffic Rules serve as a Drivers' Guide for all students, their
drivers, and employees of the German Language Classes and need to be signed for
acceptance.
:: All students, drivers, and employees are required to register their license plates on
the enclosed form. This registration is for internal use only to enable identification of
drivers in case of infractions against the rules; the data are treated strictly
confidential.

Applicable Traffic Law
:: Maryland Traffic Laws apply on school property.

Driving Behavior/Parking Restriction on Chateau Drive
:: The speed limit of 25mph on Chateau Drive must be respected. With consideration
for the neighbors a speed of 20mph is suggested.
:: Drive on right lane only. Do not move onto the left lane when turning right into the
parking lot.
:: Do not drive with open windows while listening to high-volume music.
:: Do not park on Chateau Drive and/or the neighbor's lawns.
:: For school events the designated overflow parking must be used.
:: Come to full stop before leaving the parking lot.

Driving and Parking on School Property
:: The parking lot speed limit of 10mph must be respected.
:: One-way circulation must be respected.
:: No parking along the yellow curbs (fire lane, vehicles will be towed).
:: Do not obstruct parking spaces and allow others to pull in and out.
:: Vehicles may only be left unattended when properly parked in a marked
parking space.
:: Vehicles transporting children of less than 10 years of age are asked to use the
elementary school parking lot where all parking spaces have direct access to
walkways.

Pedestrian Behavior on the Parking Lot
:: Use shortest possible path to pedestrian walkway after parking the vehicle.
:: Students may only be on the parking lot to get in and out of vehicles.

Commitment to Respect Rules
:: All students, drivers, and employees of the GLC commit to respect the parking and
traffic rules.
:: Infractions against the Parking and Traffic Rules lead to the following consequences:

Incident:
1. Infraction:     Warning
2. Infraction:     Warning
3. Infraction:     Exclusion from classes

Registration for Parking Permit and Shuttle Bus Service

Our school is in a residential area, zoning laws apply and our neighbors have taken legal action to get relief from the increasing amount of traffic on Saturday mornings. Therefore, as of September 2009 we have to abide by new parking regulations in order to continue with our German language program at the German School. The main commitment the school had to make is to disallow any pick-up or drop-off by cars not remaining (parking) on the school grounds during class, but rather to provide shuttle services from a remote location.

Once you register for a class, you can also choose the option of obtaining a parking permit or the shuttle bus service.

There are limited parking spaces available and they will be issued on a first-come first-serve basis.
